Varicose and spider veins affect millions of Americans’ self-confidence due to appearance, pain, and discomfort. Sclerotherapy is a tried-and-true, effective treatment option for these veins and can prevent worsening. At Perfect Skin Dermatology in Juno Beach, Florida, Dr. Susan Schroeder offers multiple sclerosant solutions to treat veins of varying sizes.
Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure involving the injection of a sclerosant solution into affected veins. The solution promotes intentional and controlled scarring of the vein, which forces blood to reroute its flow to healthier veins. As a result, the treated vein collapses and is then naturally reabsorbed by the body. In addition to improving the appearance of your legs, treating varicose veins can help relieve:
Dr. Schroeder finds sclerotherapy to be the best option for patients wishing to treatvaricose/spider veins. It provides more effective, longer-lasting results than alternative laser options.
During your consultation, Dr. Schroeder provides information you’ll need to prepare for treatment. Also at this visit, you will be measured for compression hose. We uniformly use thigh-high, toeless compression stockings (like a “sleeve” for your legs), as we find these much more comfortable and less limiting for out patients.
When you arrive for your treatment, we will cleanse the treatment area and use a very fine needle to precisely inject the solution into the targeted vein(s). Most people experience minor cramps or stinging during the injection. Afterward, pressure bandages are applied followed by compression stockings that are worn for two weeks following your treatment. Most patients resume normal daily activities within a few days, and it is important to avoid sun exposure after treatment.
